Prelimenary task 2 brainstorm

Grace Watson

an abduction
- this will make it easy to include the chase-scene.
- will also evoke fear within the viewer - they will sympathize and worry for the girl.
- girl being abducted - vulnerable, 'weak', she will scream, cry, yell - supports the typical            stereotype of girls being emotional.
- can use makeup to paint a large bruise on her forehead/cheek, as if she has been hit/hurt.
- her hair can be really messy and knotty - symbolize how she has been pulled and pushed around roughly.
- man - brutal, scary, stern, unafraid, powerful - also supports typical stereotype of men being the less vulnerable, more superior characters. He will be a strange character, pale face, blue rings under his eyes, and a falseness in his voice.

Our main plot idea: A large, tall man offers a young, small girl a 'sweet'. He invites her to walk with him to his car where the sweet is. She happily goes along with him. Soon after handing her the sweet (which is the object that is 'given'), he then invites her to get into his car. She has a 'discovery' or 'revelation' moment, and remembers how one should never take a sweet from or get into a car with a stranger, and so therefore she realizes that perhaps this man is a danger to be around. This will be symbolized by her dropping the sweet onto the ground, looking up at him worriedly, and politely saying, "Um, no... thank, ... you... no.. thanks." (a bit of a stutter - sound revealing her nervousness) [we may use a close-up shot of her face revealing her worry, and then a low-angle shot looking up at the man revealing his superiority and her vulnerability in this moment]. He will then try and grab her, in which she will begin running away at a high speed - the chase scene of him chasing after her. This chase-sequence will be followed by him managing to catch up to her and pick her up, with her hitting her head against his on accident, hurting herself. He will carry her, at pace, to his car, shove her inside, and drive off. [Extreme close-up of his face as he carries her to reveal his determination and awful character - pale face, blue rings under his eyes, really strange man].

Dialogue may be:

MAN:
Hey little gal, how are you?
GIRL:
Hi, um, I'm good thank you.
MAN:
Where's your mum?
GIRL:
{points to bathroom entrance} I'm waiting for her.
MAN:
Ah... I don't suppose yu'd a like a sweet while you wait, would you?
GIRL:
{smiles with keen interest}.
MAN:
Come along, we'll only be two minutes.

{both begin walking to his car}

MAN:
Let's go for a drive while we wait, should we?
GIRL:
{'revelation' moment'} Um, no... thank, ... you... no.. thanks. {drops the sweet, looks up at him worriedly, and begins running away, screaming}. MOOOOOMMMMYYYYY!

{chase-scene}

Setting: Kennedy Park, between Castor Bay and Milford - there's a playground for the small child to be near, and a public toilet opposite it where the child can point to her mother being. In between the playground and the public toilet, there is also a parking lot where the man's car can be stationed.

Chene Harris

The little girl could be wearing pigtails and quite happy and bright colors

The strange tall man is wearing dark colors with scruffy hair and kind of like a smokers voice

We could film at a public toilet place and have the man drive up in the parking lot with a white van and all the windows tinted apart from the drivers window

The tall strange man could be staring at the child playing in the playground from across the road and as soon as he sees the child’s mother go into the bathroom he then drives up to you in the parking lot and then get out and asks her if she would like the sweets

And for the actors:

We thought of using Aria Ironside because she has experience in acting for Ella Ironsides previous media films.

We also thought of using Sean as the tall man who abducts the little girl (Aria) because he fits the role.

Hunter Look

For our location i was thinking we could use castor bay playground aria as well as the carpark there.

i thought we could that we could do it to add the darker effect as well as it being easier than having to add a filter over afterwards.

Plot synopsis:

First shot(s):
- A pan of a mum on her phone to a girl playing on the playground by herself  while her mum should be watching her.
- It will then cut to a creepy man walking to the playground and sitting down on a seat and watching her.

Action & Pace of film:
-The pace this video will be quite slow, with slow and long scenes without fast cuts which goes against the norm of action thrillers.

What the camera sees, any relevant extras:
-I would like to have a voice over of the mothers voice telling the little girl to not talk to or follow strangers as the little girl is looking up to the tall man in front of his car. This could be more effective than the girl just politely walking away and start running. Even if we do a quick cut to the mum on her knees telling her about this and quickly cutting back, just to give the audience a bit of context and some information to not confuse them to much while still not giving away too much.

CHARACTERS AND NAMES:

-Mum:
the Woman in the car who should be watching her daughter while she plays on the playground but instead she is sitting in her phone in the car. The phone is symbolism of distraction and how it was her mother downfall that she is ultimately kidnapped.

-Little girl:
Unnamed at the moment, the little girl is arguably the main/ most important character along with the kidnapper. In the scene we see her playing on the playground and then walking to the bathroom and eventually following the kidnapper to his car unaware she would b kidnapped. Her symbolism is her costume which is her bright vibrant clothes that make her stand out in the dark lighting,. Not only this though, it also shows her innocence and sweetness which is contrasted by the dark lighting and dark colors of the kidnapper.

-Kidnapper:
Also unnamed the kidnapper is probably equal to maybe more important to the story, in essence stalking the young girl trying to find the perfect moment to catch her off guard and eventually kidnap her. The symbolism used for him is, his van, the knife and gun in his car and, his dark clothes. So first, the dark clothes symbolize his dark and shady character not wanting to reveal his identity, secondly, his van, this is a common car/ carrier for kidnappers as it has no windows etc... it also is quite mysterious as it is dark in there with no windows again meaning it is hiding or concealing something. This, "thing" that is being concealed in the van is the gun/knife, which is the final symbol in the "movie", which symbolizes the danger and also makes us think, what is he going to use those for ?? and what is he going to do to her ??

Treatment:

Title:
"Sweetness" we have used this title as a a contrast to rather what is happening, like the man is stealing away her sweetness.

Prepared by GCH productions which includes Hunter Look, Chene' Harris, and Grace Watson.

Date:
Not confirmed yet as of COVID-19 so we don't know when we will be able to go film or go back to school.

Example: It is proposed that the film will be of 1 to 2 Minutes duration, and that it will be filmed at Kennedy park, because there is a playground there which is a common place for kids to hang out, also, the bathrooms parking lot and playground are in close proximity meaning we do not have to travel very far to get to each shot location. Also because it is on a cliff right by the water and and in the end credits i want to use those shots to show the new Zealand beauty as a contrast to what as just happened.

This film will include the following conventions of thriller films:

-Low key lighting, because this adds the unknown effect like anything could jump out at any minute and it adds a scary look to it, also conotating with the fact nothing very good happens at night.

-shadows, i want to be able to show some sort of shadow effect where the shadow is behind the tall man because this could give the audience an idea of the fact that this man is fronting to the girl so that he can almost gain her trust a little bit but in reality he is just putting a front up in front of his sinister ideas.

-change in angles, the change in angles shows something almost distorted meaning that it may look okay at that point but there is something going on in the bigger picture that is dodgy and the audience will be able to see this as i would like to play around with the idea of when the little girl looks at the tall scary man she is looking on a skewed angle at first to show that he may look normal but there is something sinister in his "motives".

-low angle of the girl looking up at the tall man and a shot looking down on the girl from the POV of the tall man, this shows the effect of the tall scary man being dominant and stronger and dangerous, also the fact she is looking up to him gives us the sense he is very tall and scary.

-Dark clothing, I want the tall sketchy man to be wearing dark and ominous clothing to make him again shown as not being seen properly for what and who he really is.

After watching the following thriller films/thriller openings, get out, inception, split  I have been influenced by them in the way where I want to use the following theme used in get out, as well as the dark lighting. From inception I would want to take the action music in the background, and the danger element. From Split I want to use the fact the young girl is alone and isolated while everyone else is with each other.

Problems encountered:
The problems we have encountered is that we cannot film at the moment because of COVID-19 and we do not know when we will be able to get out to film any time soon.

……………………………………………………………………….

The film will include the following:

(1) Character names and their motivations/representation in the film:
- i don't know the names of the little girl yet but the tall man we have chosen to go unnamed. at the moment but the motivation and representations of the little girl is a representation of innocence and some good things in society. Whereas the tall man is showing bad things and deceit and how society is becoming corrupt and evil.

(2) Ideology (incl. message of film, relevant representations and any commentary on supporting or challenging representations as well as representation theorists)

(3) Mood and Tone:
-the mood and tone in this movie is trying to be quite nice and light at the start and as you notice the man starting to follow and look at the girl in his dark and creepy attire the mood starts to become darker and creepier/ more serious as, this is quite a serious topic and i think we can do something good with it while not making fun of it, in all its seriousness.

(4) Camera Shots, camera movement/lighting/angles, lighting:
- i want to get a nice mix of wide shots and close ups to show the full view of what is going on and in certain moments close ups so that it shows in a way the full detail of what is going on. in this movie i want to use dark lighting and shadows to show the shady actions and that what is going on is bad and also the dark and shadowy effect is a thriller convention. in the way of angles i really want to use a slanted angle every time it shows the tall man because it can show he may be acting all nice towards her but his actions are actually sinister.

(5) Themes and motifs:
- kidnapping, where the girl is kidnapped by the tall man who gave her the lolly
-chase scene, where the tall man chases the girl, this is often used in thrillers as something to give something different to the movie as well as adding something that is suspenseful and you are always uncertain.

(6) Narrative
At the beginning the girl is just playing on the playground ,by herself, (her mum is in the car). there are other kids around but she wants to stay by herself. A man then comes and sits on the bench, noticing she is by herself, he sits there for a little, just watching her. The little girl then walks to bathroom and the man follows her, as she comes out of the bathroom, we will use a wide shot of her walking out and behind the bathrooms you will see the tall man who, then follows her out at a good distance, she then drops something and he picks it up and gives it back to her and asks if she wanted a lolly, she says "yes", and follows him to the car. As they get to the car/van in her mind she remembers that she shouldn't talk to strangers and especially not follow them to their car, so she politely walks away and as she gets slightly way she starts to run.The tall man then realizes she can tell he is dodgy and runs after her and grabs her. once he gets her, he picks her up and takes her to the car and chucks her in the back and drives away as she screams and cries and hits the windows.

(5) Mise-en-scene/setting:
- Kennedy park at the playground, public bathroom, and parking lot.

(6) Symbolism:
-gun/knife, these are symbols of the tall man being someone dangerous and someone you cant trust, what i want to do with these is put them in the background of a shot, and so the little girl cant know but the audience will, giving them some information to add the suspense.
-black clothing/hoodie, this is symbolic of the fact he wants to hide something about himself and the fact it is black means he may be dangerous because black is quite mysterious, and why is he wanted to not be seen ?? What does he have to hide ??

(7) Sound and music:
I will use dark ominous sounds in the background while the man walks behind her to make it creepy and more scary and then as he picks up the stuff to talk to her it will stop. Also this background sound will be played as he draws her to the car, but, as she runs away it will switch to action like chase scene music. Also there will be the ominous dark sounds while the logo as she gets chucked in the truck it will get louder and louder as she screams and hits on the windows until it eventually cuts to black and the music hits its high point when it goes black and the logo comes on the screen, in which it will then start to lower until an eventual no music while the credits finish. Also at the start i will probably have some upbeat but creepy music playing as the man looks at her while she plays on the playground, to emphasize that he is creepily watching a little girl play on a playground.

(9) Use of credits and logos:
- i will use a logo at the end to show the controversial title at the end from a blackout to logo to emphasize the ending before the credits so that the emphasis is not drawn away by the credits and rather makes the end and title logo pop.

(10) Editing:
I want to make the editing slow and not quick cuts because the slow cuts can emphasize that the girl cant escape and is not fast enough to get out. Also it stretches everything out and emphasizes everything making it that much more effective in making it more and more nerve racking and suspenseful making us want to know even more what will happen to the girl.

BEGINNING:
At the beginning the girl is just playing on the playground ,by herself, (her mum is in the car). there are other kids around but she wants to stay by herself. A man then comes and sits on the bench, noticing she is by herself, he sits there for a little, just watching her.

MIDDLE:
The little girl then walks to bathroom and the man follows her, as she comes out of the bathroom, we will use a wide shot of her walking out and behind the bathrooms you will see the tall man who, then follows her out at a good distance, she then drops something and he picks it up and gives it back to her and asks if she wanted a lolly, she says "yes", and follows him to the car. As they get to the car/van in her mind she remembers that she shouldn't talk to strangers and especially not follow them to their car, so she politely walks away and as she gets slightly way she starts to run.
END:
The tall man then realizes she can tell he is dodgy and runs after her and grabs her. once he gets her, he picks her up and takes her to the car and chucks her in the back and drives away.

THE MAIN CONFLICT/TENSION IN THE SEQUENCE:
-When the little girl kind of realizes what is happening and starts to walk away, because it creates a lot of tension between the girl and the man and how the girl feels in danger and the man has realized she knows which causes the girl to freak.

FURTHER NOTES BELOW:
This key tension will help, because it will show how if the girl just listened to the mum's advice she wouldn't be in this situation in the first place.

Creating Suspense Homework assignment

Notes on videos:

Part 1:

Video 1:
-A lot of beginners make the mistake in suspense of not giving the audience the information they need at the start or beginning of the scene or story for the suspense to work or be effective.

Video 2:
- Spielberg's ability to empathise with the audience allows him to create very suspensful moments.
- Spielberg jumps between subjective and objective perspective to create suspense.
- By breaking up the action into a series of close ups, punctuated by swells of music each step of Quins process builds tension and suspense.
- in the movie 'the color purple' pans during the shot of the woman shaving her husband to, establish the shot from 'mister' to 'seely', which keeps the tension going. A cut would break the tension and  lose the momentum causing us to think the film is tricking us in some way.
- the way the knife is portrayed is like it is a deadly weapon.
- the close ups of the blade mixed with the sounds of the the razor on his skin makes us think she could kill him at every minute.
- the cut away sustains the tension by stretching out the moment that this tense shave is taking.
- Spielberg always shows the important object large and in the foreground to show its importance.

Video 3:
- Hitchcock said "it is indespensible that the public be made perfectly aware of all the facts involved. Otherwise there is no suspense."
-when the bird swoops in it is not suspense it is shock because, the audience doesn't know anything so it cant be suspense, it is momuntary shock rather than drawn out suspense.
-we are given information about the birds because she was attacked by birds in previous scenes.

8.)Reviews:The film holds a 100% "Fresh" rating on the review aggregate website Rotten Tomatoes, based on 43 critical reviews, with an average score of 9.66/10. The site's consensus reads: "Tokyo Story is a Yasujiro Ozu masterpiece whose rewarding complexity has lost none of its power more than half a century on". John Walker, former editor of the Halliwell's Film Guides, places Tokyo Story at the top of his published list of the best 1000 films ever made. Tokyo Story is also included in film critic Derek Malcolm's The Century of Films, a list of films which he deems artistically or culturally important, and Time magazine lists it among its All-Time 100 Movies. Roger Ebert included it in his series of great movies, and Paul Schrader placed it in the "Gold" section of his Film Canon.Tokyo Story is often admired as a work that achieves great emotional effect while avoiding melodrama. Critic Wally Hammond stated that "the way Ozu builds up emotional empathy for a sense of disappointment in its various characters is where his mastery lies." Roger Ebert wrote that the work "lacks sentimental triggers and contrived emotion; it looks away from moments a lesser movie would have exploited. It doesn't want to force our emotions, but to share its understanding." In The Village Voice, Eric Hynes argued that "time itself is [Ozu]'s most potent weapon. Protracted sequences make you impatient for forward motion, but then, in an instant, you’re left to mourn beauties hastened away." In 2010, David Thomson rhetorically asked whether any other family drama in cinematic history was more moving than Tokyo Story. Ebert called Ozu "universal", reported having never heard more weeping in an audience than during its showing, and later stated that the work "ennobles the cinema. It says, yes, a movie can help us make small steps against our imperfections."

5.)Cinema:-Delay and changesIn August 2014, Sony delayed the film's release from October 10 to December 25, 2014.Sony made post-production alterations to the film to modify its portrayal of North Korea, including modifying the designs of buttons worn by characters, originally modeled after real North Korean military buttons praising the country's leaders, and cutting a portion of Kim Jong-un's death scene. The Interview opened to a limited release in the United States on December 25, 2014, across 331 theaters.

Home video:Sony released the film on Blu-ray Disc and DVD on February 17, 2015. The home release was packaged as the "Freedom Edition", and included 90 minutes of deleted scenes, behind-the-scenes featurettes, a blooper reel, feature commentary with directors Rogen and Goldberg, and a special episode of Naked and Afraid featuring Rogen and Franco. As of July 21, 2015, the film had earned over $6.7 million in sales in the U.S.

6.)Box office:earned over $1 million on its opening day. Variety called the opening gross "an impressive launch for a title playing in only about 300 independent theaters in the U.S." It went on to earn over $1.8 million in its opening weekend, and by the end of its run on January 25, 2015, had grossed $6.1 million at the box office.Within four days of its online release on December 24, 2014, The Interview earned over $15 million through online rentals and purchases. It became Sony Pictures' highest-grossing online release, outselling Arbitrage ($14 million), Bachelorette ($8.2 million), and Snow piercer ($7 million). It is the top-selling Google Play and YouTube film of 2014. By January 20, 2015, the film had earned more than $40 million from online sales and rentals.Sony expected The Interview to break even through video-on-demand sales and saving millions of dollars on marketing. The National Association of Theater Owners contended that Sony would lose at least $30 million due to poor box office performance.

7.)Release:The interview is on DVD, Blu-Ray, and on Netflix as well as on illegal streaming sites. It was also shown in cinemas.

8.)Reviews:On review aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes, the film holds a 51% approval rating, based on 141 reviews, with an average rating of 5.6/10. The site's consensus reads: "Unfortunately overshadowed by controversy (and under-screened as a result), The Interview's screenplay offers middling laughs bolstered by its two likable leads."On Metacritic, the film has a score of 52 out of 100, based on 33 critics, indicating "mixed or average reviews."IGN's Roth Cornet wrote that "though it's unlikely to stand out as one of the shrewdest political satires of its time, is a clever, unrestrained and—most importantly—sidesplitting parody that pokes fun at both a vapid media and one of the world's most dangerous dictators."Edward Douglas of ComingSoon.net said the film was "hilarious, but it will probably get us nuked. "Jordan Hoffman of The Guardian gave the film three out of five stars and wrote that "if this unessential but agreeable movie really triggered an international response, this is life reflecting art in a major way."
Scott Foundas of Variety panned the film as "cinematic waterboarding" and "about as funny as a communist food shortage, and just as protracted", but praised the performances of Randall Park and Diana Bang. Mike Hale of The New York Times also praised Park and Bang, but wrote that "after seeing The Interview and the ruckus its mere existence has caused, the only sensible reaction is amazement at the huge disconnect between the innocuousness of the film and the viciousness of the response."

Home video:Avengers: Endgame was released in the US on digital distribution by Walt Disney studios Home Entertainment on July 30, and on Ultra HD Blu-ray, Blu ray and DVD on August 13. The film was released on both Digital HD and Blu-ray on September 2 in the UK. Streaming is exclusive to Disney+ since November 12. The digital and Blu-ray releases include behind-the-scenes featurettes, audio commentary, deleted scenes, and a blooper reel. Despite being filmed with IMAX cameras and released in IMAX theaters in the 1.90:1 aspect ratio, the home media release only includes the cropped 2.39:1 aspect ratio version that was used for non-IMAX screenings.

6.)Box office:Avengers: Endgame grossed $858.4 million in the United States and Canada, and $1.939 billion in other territories, for a worldwide total of $2.8 billion. It is the highest grossing film of all time, as well as the second highest grossing of all time in the United States and Canada. Adjusted for inflation, Gone with the wind (1939) remains the highest-grossing film, and Avengers: Endgame is the fifth highest grossing of all time worldwide. The film had a worldwide opening of $1.2 billion, the biggest of all time and nearly double Infinity War's previous record of $640.5 million. It was also the fastest film ever to eclipse the $1 billion and $1.5 billion mark, doing so in just five days and eight days respectively (less than half what it took Infinity War). Deadline Hollywood estimated the film would break even just five days after its release, which is "unheard of for a major studio tentpole during its opening weekend". The website eventually calculated the final net profit of the film to be $890 million, accounting for production budgets, P&A, talent participations, and other costs, with box office grosses and ancillary revenues from home media, placing it first on their list of 2019's "Most Valuable Blockbusters".On May 4, the film's earnings at the global box office passed the entire theatrical run of Infinity War and became the fastest film ever to gross $2 billion worldwide, amassing the amount in only 11 days (beating Avatar that did so in 47 days). It also became the fifth film to surpass this threshold (after Avatar, Titanic, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and Infinity War), and the second film to surpass the threshold of $2.5 billion, doing so in just 20 days, outpacing Avatar's record of 72 days. At the 2019 San Diego Comic-con, Feige announced that Disney had overlooked $2 million of weekday ticket sales when doing accounting and that Endgame would surpass Avatar's total box office return that weekend to be the highest-grossing film.Pre-sale recordsIn late December 2018, Endgame was named the second-most anticipated 2019 film by IMDb behind Captain Marvel, the most anticipated 2019 blockbuster according to the ticketing service Fandango, and the most anticipated overall film by Atom tickets.Due to the high demand when pre-sale tickets became available in the U.S. on April 2, 2019, customers on both Atom Tickets and Fandango experienced long wait times and system delays, while AMC Theatres' website and app crashed completely for several hours. The same day, Fandango announced the film became its top-selling pre-sale title for the first 24 hours, topping Star Wars: The Force Awakens' previous record in just six hours. Atom said the film was also the website's best selling first-day film (outselling Aquaman by four times), and Regal cinemas reported that Endgame had sold more tickets in its first eight hours than Infinity War did in its entire first week. The film grossed $120–140 million in pre-sales alone. The day prior to the film's release, Fandango announced it was its biggest pre-selling title of all time, beating The Force Awakens, with over 8,000 sold-out showtimes across the country. In India, the film sold one million tickets in just one day for the English, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu language screenings; 18 tickets were sold every second. In China, pre-sale tickets became available on April 12 and sold a record one million tickets in just six hours, outselling Infinity War's first 24-hour total within the first hour, and made $114.5 million (RMB 770 million) just from pre-sales. on April 4, industry tracking projected the film would gross $200–250 million domestically during its opening weekend, although some insiders saw those figures as conservative and expected a $260–300 million-debut. By the week of its release, domestic estimates had risen to $260–270 million, with some insiders still suggesting a $300 million debut was possible. The film played in 4,662 theaters, 410 of which were in IMAX; it is the widest release ever, surpassing the record of Despicable me 3's 4,529 theaters. Avengers: Endgame earned $357.1 million in its opening weekend, breaking Infinity War's record by nearly $100 million. It also set records for Friday ($157.5 million, including $60 million from Thursday night previews), Saturday ($109.3 million) and Sunday ($90.4 million) totals, as well as was more of a total gross alone than the previous box office high of all films combined ($314 million). The film then made $36.9 million on Monday and $33.1 million on Tuesday, both the third-highest of all time. In its second weekend the film made $147.4 million (the second-best sophomore frame ever) for a 10-day total of $621.3 million. It was the fastest film to ever pass the $600 million milestone, beating The Force Awakens' 12 days and less than half the 26 days it took Infinity War. The following week, the film grossed $64.8 million, the fourth-best third weekend ever. It also passed the $700 million mark, tying The Force Awakens' record of 16 days. Endgame was finally dethroned in its fourth weekend by newcomer John Wick: Chapter 3Parabellum, however its $29.3 million was enough for it to pass Avatar as the second-highest-grossing film ever domestically. It made $17.2 million the following weekend (and a total of $22.3 million over the four-day Memorial Day frame), crossing the $800 million threshold domestically.During the re-release, which occurred over its tenth weekend, the film was added to 1,040 theaters and made $6.1 million, an increase of 207% from the previous weekend. In its thirteenth weekend the film made $1.2 million, which put it over the threshold to top Avatar's all-time record, and brought its running domestic total to $854.2 million.Other territoriesInternationally, Endgame was projected to gross around $680 million over its first five days for a global debut of $850–950 million. The film was initially projected to gross $250–280 million in China in its opening weekend, but made a record $107.5 million (RMB 719 million) in the country on its first day, including $28.2 million (RMB 189 million) from midnight, 3 AM and 6 am screenings, beating The fate of the furious previous record of $9.1 million. Due to the record-breaking first day, partnered with word of mouth (with a 9.1 on local review aggregator Douban and a 9.3 on ticket website Maoyan), debut projections were increased to over $300 million. Overall, the film made $169 million on the first day from international countries, the highest total of all time. Its largest markets after China were India ($9 million), South Korea ($8.4 million; the largest non-holiday single day gross ever), Australia ($7.1 million), France ($6 million) and Italy ($5.8 million). Like domestically, the film ended up over-performing and debuted to $866.5 million overseas. Not only was it the highest foreign amount ever, but it was single-handedly more than Infinity War's global opening of $640 million. Its largest markets, every one of which set the record for best-ever opening in the country, were China ($330.5 million; RMB 2.22 billion), the United Kingdom ($53.8 million), South Korea ($47.4 million), Mexico ($33.1 million), Australia ($30.8 million), Brazil ($26 million), Spain ($13.3 million), Japan ($13 million)[160] and Vietnam ($10 million). It also made $21.6 million over its first four days in Russia after a delay of its premiere that was caused by the Russian government. In its first week, the film's top five largest international markets were China ($459.4 million), the United Kingdom ($68.2 million), South Korea ($60.3 million), Mexico ($48.6 million), and India ($40.9 million). A week after its release, it became the highest-grossing foreign film of all time in China and India. In its second weekend the film's running total passed $1.569 billion from international markets, passing Titanic as the second-highest film overseas of all time.As of August 25, 2019, the film's top international markets were China ($614 million), United Kingdom ($115 million), South Korea ($105 million), Brazil ($86 million), and Mexico ($78 million).
